WEG is a solo project by Katsuhiko Maeda. He was born Nov1st, 1974 in the Goto Islands, Nagasaki, Japan. He was impressed by Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 so deeply when he was 10 years old. That made him to start making music.
WEG hasreleased several albums and numerous remixes albums since his debut album“ending story” in 2000.His album”The Lie Lay Land”(2005)and ”Hurtbreak Wonderland”(2007)still keeps great sales consistently today.
WEG actively play gigs inside and outside of Japan. He played at the Sonar Festival in BarcelonaSpain2002 and 2005,also toured amongAsia(2004),Europe(2005) ,USA(2007) and played at All Tomorrow’s Parties in the UK (2008).
In 2009,WEG composed a soundtrack album for “空気人形(Air doll)”which received great acclaims at Cannes film festival and showed at theaters over 15 countries.
WEG launched his own record label named “Virgin Babylon Records” on 14 July 2010and released his newest album“Seven Idiots” for Asia territory. Other territories are released by London/Berlin based Erased Tapes Records.
In 2011,WEG composed music for film“星空 Starry Starry Night“ by aTaiwanese film directorTom Lin.The film was first showcased at the Busan International Film Festival as part of its “New Currents” film category. It was released in Chinese and Taiwanese cinemas.WEG played his firstheadlinerown show in Taiwan and Hong-Kong and also played at JUEMusic+Art Festival in Shanghai and Beijing.
Then Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore and GUINNESS® Wood+Wires Festival in Shanghaiin 2013.
In 2014,WEG arranged music for a documentary film of top Japanese girls idol group AKB 48 “DOCUMENTARY ofAKB48The time has come”
WEG played his first headlinerown show in China.2000 capacity hall in Shanghai and Beijing.
WEG is currentlyin studio for making new album which plans to be released in Autumn
